Heating & cooling
Heat pump hot water
The same trick as your reverse cycle, pointed at the hot water tank. It moves heat in rather than paying to make it, which is why it runs for a fraction of an old electric element.

How it heats the water
An electric element turns one unit of electricity into one unit of heat, and that is the ceiling. A heat pump does not make heat at all — it pulls warmth out of the outside air and moves it into the tank, so one unit of electricity delivers several units of hot water.
It is the same refrigeration cycle we work on every day, which is why it sits naturally with the rest of what we do rather than being a sideline.
- Runs on a fraction of what an electric element costs
- No gas connection, no flue, no pilot
- Sits outside like a small air conditioning unit
- Pairs neatly with solar — heat the tank while the sun is up
Getting off gas hot water
Hot water is usually the second-biggest thing on a gas bill after heating. Swapping the storage or instantaneous gas unit for a heat pump takes that off the account, and if the heating has already gone electric it can take the gas supply charge with it.
We will look at what you have got, where a new unit can physically go, and what it will cost to run before you commit to anything.
Timers and solar
A heat pump does not care when it runs, only that the tank is hot when you want a shower. Set it to heat in the middle of the day and it drinks from the roof instead of the grid — which is where the running cost really falls away.
